Everything is cheaper if bought in bulk. This idea of saving money if you bought things in bulk isn't new. Almost always when you are buying in bulk, you save money per each unit which translates to savings when calculated. While buying in bulk almost always translates to monetary savings, of course there are drawbacks. Buying in bulk isn't always the best option for perishable goods. While it may be the solution for most products like bulk toiletries, we must of course take into consideration several things when buying perishables.

Buying bulk flour is most beneficial to commercial bakers or bakers who make more baked products. Obviously bulk flour is not the solution when you intend to save if you are a home baker. In this case, one must be aware of the shelf life of flour.

The shelf life of white flour is one year, that is if it is an unopened bag. An opened bag's shelf life is 6 to 8 months. Whole wheat flour has the same shelf life for unopened bags, that is 1 year. But opened bags must be used within 6 months, because the oil in it will turn bad after six months. These must be considered when buying bulk flour.
